ONE STEP TECHNIQUES - Ilbo Matsogi

One step consists of counter attacks to a single punch in a walking stance. All attacks start from parallel ready stance, first on the right side then on the left side.
Counter attacks to punches from either side must be practiced.

The defender must execute efficient blocking or evading techniques followed by counter attacks consisting of a combination of hand or foot striking techniques or take down techniques.
Regardless if the defender is to evade or take down their partner they should always follow through to “finish off” their attacker

•    It is vital that all techniques are correct and focused on the proper target.
•    Proper distance and control must be maintained.
•    All kicks and punches must be fully extended to the target without striking.

Therefore demonstrating the exponent’s proficiency and control as expected of their grade.

Power:

Left  back piercing kick
Right back piercing kick
Front elbow strike
THEORY

What is the meaning of the blue belt?
Blue signifies the heaven towards which the plant matures into a towering tree as training in Tae kwon do progresses.

What is the meaning of the red belt?
Red signifies danger cautioning the student to exercise control, also warning the opponent to stay away

Know the Taekwon-Do student oath:
As a student of Taekwon-Do:
I shall observer the Tenets of Taekwon-Do
I shall respect the Instructor and Seniors
I shall never misuse Taekwon-Do
I shall be a champion of freedom and justice
I shall build a more peaceful world.

The last two lines of the oath describe the effect that following the first three statements will have on a student of Taekwon-Do. It is not expected that a practitioner of Taekwon-Do will change the world single-handed, however,  if everyone practicing Taekwon-Do can behave in a manner outlined by the five tenents then the Taekwon-Do community will be a role model for the whole of society.

What is the meaning of Joong-Gun?
JOONG-GUN is named after the patriot Ahn Joong-Gun who assassinated Hiro-Bumi Ito, the first Japanese governor-general of Korea, known as the man who played the leading part in the Korea-Japan merger. There are 32 movements in this pattern to represent Mr. Ahn's age when he was executed in a Lui-Shung prison (1910).

Describe Taekwon-Do.
Taekwon-Do is a version of unarmed combat designed for the purpose of self-defence. It is the scientific use of the body in the method of self-defence.

What is the weight distribution in Dwit bal sogi, and why?
There is no official distribution for this stance, but it is 90-10 so we can lift up the front leg easily for attack or defence.

Describe the difference between connecting and continuous motion.
A connecting motion is 2 movements in 1 sine wave in 1 breath where a continuous motion is 2 movements in 2 sine waves in 1 breath.

What is the difference between slipping and sliding?
With slipping we go from a shorter to a longer stance. In sliding we move both feet and gain greater distance.

There is one movement in the colourbelt patterns that doesn't have a backward motion. Which one is it. Both releases in Joong-Gun don't have a backward movement.

Why do we perform low stance & Korean?

(Nachuo sogi) The advantage of this stance is the ease with which one can extend the attacking tool. It can also develop the leg muscles and is effective to adjust the distance to and from the target. It is similar to the walking stance, though longer by one foot. It can be either full facing or side facing.

What is the Korean for U-shape block and its purpose?
Digutcha Makgi – To block a pole, staff or rifle with the Arc hand of both hands.

What is the Korean for one step sparring?
Ilbo Matsogi.

What should we consider while performing patterns?
1. Pattern should beging and end at exactly the same spot. This will indicate the performer's accuracy.
2. Correct posture and facing must be maintained at all times.
3. Muscles of the body should be either tensed or relaxed at the proper critical moments in the exercise.
4. The exercise should be performed in a rhythmic movement with an absence of stiffness.
5. Movement should be accelerated or decelerated according to the instructions.
6. Each pattern should be perfected before moving to the next.
7. Students should know the purpose of each movement.
8. Students should perform each movement with realism.
9. Attack and defense techniques should be equally distributed among right and left hands and feet.

Blue signifies the heaven towards which the plant matures into a towering tree as training in Tae kwon do progresses.

Rear Foot Stance - Dwitbal Sogi
The stance has the heel of the rear foot slightly beyond the heel of the front foot, and therefore has no width. It is one (1) shoulder width long, measured from the small toes of the rear foot to the small toes of the front foot. The weight is distributed mostly on the rear foot. The rear leg is bent so that the knee-cap is over the toes of the rear foot and the rear foot is point in about 15 degrees. The front leg is bent with the ball of the front foot slightly touching the floor, the heel of the front foot slightly off the ground, and the foot pointing in about 25 degrees. The back of the heel of the rear foot extends just past the outside edge of the heel of the front foot. This stance is named for the rear foot, and is always performed half facing.

Low Stance - Nachuo Sogi
The stance is one (1) shoulder width wide, measured between the center of the insteps of the feet. It is one-and-a-half (1.5) shoulder widths long, measured from the big toe of the rear foot to the heel of the front foot. The weight is distributed evenly between the feet. The back leg is straight and locked with the back foot pointed outward up to 25 degrees. The front leg is bent with the knee-cap directly over the heel with the front foot pointed straight forward. The foot muscles of both feet tensed as if to pull the feet together. The stance is named for the front foot, and is performed full or half facing.
